Pre-Modular Suspensions - 1969 to 1999

From 1969 to 1999, there were many different types of mono Rycote suspensions. The length of the microphone determined the length of the bars and brackets.

AVA Mount - Screw Version (1969 - 1984)

Rubber AVA mounts were screwed through the spine of windshield. The suspension was fitted and removed by undoing the screw threads and completely dismantling it from the suspension bracket. There was no means of sliding the suspension in and out of the windshield.

AVA Mount - Slide Version (1984 - 1986)

A later version of the AVA mounts used a rubber filler strip to allow the suspension to be slid in and out of the windshield using a slot.

Foam Rubber Shock Mount - Slide (1986 - 1995)

For microphones over 50 cm, this mount replaced the AVA rubber shock-mount. The foam was available in two hardnesses for different weights of microphones, and was fitted with a clip suitable for 19/20 mm microphones. The suspension was fitted into the windshield by loosening the two screws and sliding it into the slot.

Foam Rubber Shock Mount

Horseshoe or U Loop - Screw (1969 - 1984)

Elastic cord, tied together with a reef knot holding 2 point acetyl clips. The suspension was fitted & removed by undoing the screw threads and completely dismantling it from the suspension bracket. The was no means of sliding the suspension in and out of the windshield.

Horseshoe or U Loop - Slide (1984 - 1995)

Elastic cord, tied together with a reef knot holding a 2-point acetyl clip. The slide version used a rubber filler strip to allow the suspension to be slid in and out of the windshield using a slot.

Both Screw & Slide versions feature a "U" loop at both ends of the bar, attached with 2 x 440 UNC screws

"C" Shape - Silicone Bands (Orange)

Orange Silicone band O-rings are used to hold a 4-point Hytrel clip
"C" hoops are fitted on both ends of the bar with 2 x 440 UNC screws
The O-rings are held in place with 4 fixed metal pegs placed on the "C" hoop

416 bar - 143 mm length, 83 mm centre to centre bracket holes, thread size 2 BA
816 bar - 210 mm length, 178 mm centre to centre bracket holes, thread size 2 BA

C Hoop Suspension

Round Hoop - Silicone Bands (Orange)

Orange Silicone band O-rings are used to hold a 4-point Hytrel clip
